Unreliable lights goes off/on over bumps

By

from Long Beach CA

About Me Avid Cyclist

Pros

  • Great visibility
  • Bright when working

Cons

  • Unreliable

Best Uses

  • Front headlight

Comments:

Very bright when working. Easy to mount and fit various handle bars. BUT Unreliable. Light goes off over even minor bumps and then may go on at the next bump. Brightness also varies with bumps. I think itis a design issue as batteries sit loose in housing. I have replaced the light once and also tried to modify it by using small plastic straws ro hold batteries in place. Happens with any battery new or old. I am looking at cheaper lights with lower lumens to at least be visible to cars.

Not reliable

Cons

Comments:

First, this is very bright light, great for being seen, when it is not shutting off after hitting a bump. This is my second Ion 2 light as the first was replaced under warranty for doing the exact same thing. There seems to be a flaw in the design that causes the light to shut off when going over bumps. Only way to turn it back on again is to hit it with my hand. I have read many other reviews of people having this same problem, just look it up.

Bright but unreliable

Pros

  • Very bright

Cons

Comments:

A very bright light, great for being seen when it is not turning off after hitting bumps in the road. Bike store replaced the first one under warranty for shutting off after hitting bumps and the replacement is doing the same thing. This light's design is flawed.

Never Even Worked

By

from Salt Lake City, UT

About Me Avid Cyclist

Comments:

I purchased this light in the summer months for use later in the year. Once the packaging was removed, it appeared to work fine. When I actually had the chance to use it for a night ride after working late, it was inoperable. Changing batteries had no effect. It's basically just a bad design, and - with so many other headlights on the market - I would not recommend it to anyone. I ended up just throwing it away.

Inexpensive and powerful!

About Me Avid Cyclist

Pros

  • Bright
  • Beefy
  • Great visibility

Cons

  • Not rechargable
  • Short battery life

Best Uses

  • Trail riding
  • Front headlight
  • Night commute

Comments:

I originally purchased this light for light-duty mountain biking purposes and was not disappointed. I've found competing brands that make simple "be-seen" commuting lights like this one have weak or simple mounts that move around and don't allow for swiveling. This light not only offered great visibility in the dark on Moscow Mountain, but I never once had to worry about it rocking around over chattery gravel washboards, big rocks, or tree roots. The mount is the most fool-proof design ever, I had it unpackaged and installed in seconds.

      Comments:

I have this light on my commuter bike and use it a couple times a week. The flash mode is super bright and very noticeable. There is also a low beam setting to save battery. The clamp is simple to move from bike to bike and most importantly, it stays put when riding! Batteries seem to last forever. I have only changed them once in a year.

The included bracket makes it very easy to add and remove from the bike as needed and the button is easy to use with full finger gloves. Rode iwht it in the rain yesterday and it appears to be very waterproof.
